Our mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive - not simply struggle to get by - in the communities that they've worked so hard to protect.
Occasionally, military families struggle and need help with rent or mortgage payments, major repairs, utility bills, or groceries. Operation Homefront has fulfilled over 44,000 requests from military families across the U.S., providing more than $28 million in relief through our Critical Financial Assistance program. At Operation Homefront, 91 percent of expenditures go toward delivering our programs and services.
For the thousands of seriously wounded veterans in Afghanistan and Iraq, the struggle to overcome the challenges in their lives caused by the injuries and illnesses they sustained in combat is one that must be endured every day.
The Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes was established to ensure that in return for the sacrifices they made for us, these wounded veterans and their families receive all the support needed to restore their hope and rebuild their lives.
Founded in 2004 as a non-profit, non-partisan 501(c) (3) organization, the Coalition is among the nation’s leading charities whose donors provide the wounded veterans and families of Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation New Dawn the aid and assistance needed for their long roads to recovery.

SALUTE, INC. was founded in 2003 by Will and Mary Beth Beiersdorf. Shortly after 9/11, Will (a Naval Reservist), was called to active duty and deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba for thirteen months. While Will was serving in Cuba, Mary Beth and her children coped with the fear of the unknown as well as the financial and emotional strain caused by the deployment. Family, friends and their extended community stepped in to help the family. Upon Will's return, both he and Mary Beth felt the need to "give back" by helping others who were experiencing similar hardships. After sharing their vision with family and friends, SALUTE, INC. was established. SALUTE, INC. is a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides financial support for our military men and women and veterans through a variety of fundraising activities.

We understand the challenges veterans, service members and military families can face and believe that experiencing financial difficulties should not be one of them. That's the premise behind the VFW's Unmet Needs program.
Unmet Needs is there to help America's military families who have run into unexpected financial difficulties as a result of deployment or other military-related activity or injury. The program provides financial aid grants of up to $1,500 to assist with basic life needs in the form of a grant - not a loan - so no repayment is required. To further ease the burden, we pay the creditor directly.
The needs of our veterans, service members and their families should never go unmet. Let us offer you a hand up when you need it!
For additional information, and to see if you or someone you know qualifies for a grant through the Unmet Needs program, please review the Unmet Needs eligibility criteria.

USA Cares is committed to its mission to provide financial and advocacy assistance to post-9/11 active duty U.S. military service personnel, veterans and their families. USA Cares was launched through a grassroots partnership between WAVE-3 TV in Louisville, KY, the Mid-South Division of Kroger Food Stores, and the Association of the United States Army Fort Knox Chapter. The organization was dubbed Kentuckiana Cares, with a goal to raise funds to help military families in financial crisis through the sale of “Support Our Troops” yard signs. In October 2003, in response to the increasing number of requests for assistance, Kentuckiana Cares evolved into what is now USA Cares, a 501(c)(3) national non-profit organization that has assisted thousands of veterans and military families facing hardships related to service.
